Meet Dr. Gene Dorris
Dr. Carl Eugene "Gene" Dorris founded Professional Way in 1998 with the aim of creating a leading edge management consulting company to help China transition to the world stage and develop China-grown leaders to play a major roles in international business.

Gene was born in Southern Illinois and raised in Oklahoma. He received a doctorate in Modern Chinese History from the University of Kansas in 1975. Following his graduation, he was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of California-Berkeley's Center for Chinese Studies where he studied under the direction of eminent China scholars Chalmers Johnson, Fred Wakeman and John Stewart Service.

Gene taught briefly at Mills College and Loyola University of Chicago before he joined the United States Department of State in 1977. He had overseas tours as a Foreign Service Officer in Jakarta, Rangoon, Beijing and Hong Kong and later served as the American Consul General in Shenyang, China. Fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Indonesian and Burmese, Gene is certified in the use of the Myers Briggs Type Indicator and Harthill's Leadership Development Profile.

Over the past sixteen years, Gene has been actively involved in managing PROWAY and delivering leadership and corporate culture initiatives for China-based foreign corporations. Gene moved back to the United States in 2014 and currently resides in Hillsborough, North Carolina with his wife Chrysan and their son Isaac. He visits China six times a year and continues to work with a select group of senior China managers.
